fuego inside

Fuego Old Town Eatery is a staple in Victoria’s brunch scene. If you are looking for breakfast burritos and other Mexican classics to start your day, Fuego is your best bet!

The Atmosphere

Fuego Old Town Eatery is located downtown, a few steps away from Chinatown. This casual brunch spot has a chill vibe. The intentionally decrepitated red bricks are decorated with colorful artworks, which give this place a casual feel.

If you try to go to Fuego on weekends, the line-up can get pretty long. However, in my experience, it isn’t as bad as Blue Fox. I arrived at 10am on a Saturday morning and I had to wait about 20 minutes to get a seat, but I could have sat right away if I had been okay with the patio.

The Food

Chimichanga, burritos, tacos, quesadillas, etc., Fuego Old Town Eatery has them all.

fuego old town eatery benny and the cakes

Benny and the Cakes ($21)

I ordered their Benny and the Cakes. It’s the perfect option when you can’t decide between sweet and savory brunch plates. You get to pick one benny and one pancake from the entire menu. I went with the Sweet Churro Pancakes and the Fuego Benny.

The pancakes were very light and sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon. They were topped with caramelized apples covered in chocolate sauce. It was simple but I enjoyed every bite. The benny was served on a soft and crumbly cornbread, which was an interesting take. The chorizo sausage was not too spicy but tasty. They smokey chipotle hollandaise was delicious and the serving was just right. This dish came with a side of hash browns and I ordered a side of avocado and bacon. I would honestly have been fine without it.

fuego old town eatery breakfast burrito

Breakfast Burrito ($16)

The Breakfast Burrito was a hit. It was filled with guacamole, salsa, cheese, green onions, scrambled eggs and chorizo sausage. The chorizo sausage in the burrito felt a little spicier than in the benny, and the fresh salsa was a nice, flavorful dip. This was a hearty and delicious plate.

The Drinks

Mocha ($5.25)

It’s not that simple to get a mocha right, but Fuego Old Town Eatery surely knows how to do so. It was not overly sweet and it came with just the right amount of whipped cream.

Overall

I had a great time at Fuego Old Town Eatery. The food was delicious, the service was great and portions were on point. Pricing was also fair so I left really satisfied. Although everything was great, I’m not giving this establishment 5 stars because nothing really blew my mind, but this taquería is undoubtedly a solid option for Mexican brunch in Victoria.
