If you do not want to compromise between pleasure and health next time you go for brunch, try Nourish Kitchen & Café. Located downtown Victoria in the Bay area, this sustainable café offers seasonal dishes using only natural and locally-sourced whole grain food.

The Atmosphere

Set up in a gorgeous 1888 Victorian house, Nourish Kitchen & Café is open every day from 10am to 3pm for Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch and Coffee.

nourish garden

The garden has been transformed into a patio, which is very enjoyable during warm sunny days. However, if you are more than two people, I would suggest you get seated inside because the tables outside are very small.

The Food

Don’t expect an extensive menu, which makes sense given that all the ingredients are locally-sourced. I have been to Nourish Kitchen & Café a couple of times and I tried both savory and sweet options.

adventure box

The Adventure Box ($32) :
Herbed cashew cheese, pesto, garden herb hummus, kraut & pickles, potato salad, olives, veggies, chutney, seedy bread

The Adventure Box is by far my top pick. Yes, it is expensive ($32). BUT it is set up in a box that you can bring back home, and honestly, you will most likely have leftovers. You could also share it and order something else on the side.

The box is very colorful and it looks gorgeous, especially thanks to the beautiful edible flowers. You can feel the care put into the presentation. I absolutely loved the creamy herb cashew cheese dip and the homemade apple chutney. All the ingredients were fresh, well-prepared and tasted delicious!

tartine

Tartine ($18)

If you want to keep it simple, I highly recommend the Tartine. The wildfire sourdough toast is layered with some herb cashew cheese topped with roasted veggies, two poached-eggs and some greens.

golden benny sausage

Golden Benny ($15) with a side of sausage (+$5)

Nourish Kitchen & Café also has some bennies. Benny purists may be disappointed because the usual English muffin is substituted with a bed of Kale. Personally, it did not bother me but I found the turmeric cashew hollandaise too bland. The side of sausage was a good call. The meat was non-greasy and it added some substance to the dish.

half & half

Half & Half ($18)

If you can’t make up your mind between the Golden Benny and the Sleeping Beauty Pancakes (believe me, I know the struggle), the Half & Half is the way to go! The oat pancake was closer to a real cake than an actual pancake, but it tasted great. It was served with a delicious raspberry jam and a light, non-sweet homemade whipped cream.

The Drinks

heartbeet latte

Heartbeet Latte ($7)

The Heartbeet Latte looked fantastic and it was delicious! Despite the bright pink color, the beet flavor was not overpowering. I opted for oat milk and enjoyed every sip of it, including the edible flower.

Overall

If you are looking for healthy breakfast/brunch/coffee, Nourish Kitchen & Café is a great option. The food is good, the set up is quite nice and the service friendly. I will definitely be back for a guilt-free, feel-good brunch next time I am in Victoria!
