Ta-im‘ means delicious in Hebrew, and there is no better suited name for this lovely Israeli restaurant. If you are craving hummus, falafels or other Middle-Eastern delicacies, Ta-im is the place to be.

ta im

Ta im is located at a street corner between Ebisu and Hiroo, two very trendy and foodie neighborhoods. The restaurant is tiny — it has 14 counter seats — but the owner is very friendly and the atmosphere very cozy.

falafel

6 falafels (980 yen)

I went to Ta-im for lunch and, even though they have lunch menus and plates, I couldn’t resist ordering a side of falafels. They were hearty, yet not stodgy. The outside was crispy and the light tahini sauce nicely complemented the chickpea and herb flavors.

lamb plate

Lamb plate (1,980 yen)

I ordered the Lamb plate as a main. The lamb, even though a little on the dry side, tasted wonderful. The hummus was smooth and subtle. It paired very well with the freshly made pita bread. The yams were tasty. They were thin and crispy, sprinkled with just a pinch of salt. Simple yet delicious!

The lunch plate came with a flavorful homemade soup. The turmeric and black pepper spiced it up, but despite its bright yellow color, the taste was rather subtle.

Overall

Ta-im is a very nice place if you are looking for a casual Middle-Eastern meal. The food was great and I would choose it without hesitation over Carvaan. The restaurant is small and the setting is definitely not as comfortable as Rigoletto Short Hills — which would be more appropriate for a date, but the food was definitely more authentic and Ta-im has a little je ne sais quoi that makes you want to go back.
