Are you looking for a somewhat exciting meal? Then Harold & Co may be what you need! This Western-style restaurant is nestled in a narrow alley in Omotesando, just across my beloved W Omotesando Cellar Grill.

Harold & Co‘s main attraction is not really the quality of their food, but rather the way they serve it. Every dish is presented or served in a show-like manner, which is rather unique. My friend and I went with their 3,850 yen five course dinner menu, which included one drink, and we left satisfied.

The Drinks

We were greeted with a rather unusual welcome drink. The non-alcohol Welcome Bubble Cocktail hit his mark and set the tone for the rest of the evening. We could choose between a grapefruit or grape blend and I went with the latter. Despite the bubble and the smoke released once it popped, this drink was nice and refreshing!

The Food

We were first served a Mini-Fish Burger. It was good, cute and well presented. I particularly liked the tartare sauce.

Appetizers / Grilled Pork and Mashed Potatoes / Cheese risotto

The starter was a plexiglass tower divided into compartments filled with small appetizers. It featured some salmon and carrot terrine, some fish carpaccio, a vegetable quiche, an omelette, a mini-caesar salad and a pumpkin waffle cone.

Taste-wise, these bite-sized appetizers were not mind-blowing but they still tasted good. The presentation was interesting, but it could have been cleaner. Some carpaccio dressing was dripping onto the plexiglass, which was not exactly appetizing…

Our mains arrived and the show went on. The Grilled Pork and Mashed Potatoes was placed in front of us with a transparent plate cover. Once removed, it released some smoke. It was entertaining and the meat was well-cooked and tender.

I absolutely loved the Cheese Risotto. It was prepared in front of us, inside a huge cheese wheel lit on fire. This was unexpected and fun to watch! The risotto was rich and cheesy, just the way I like it!

The Desserts

Last but not least, dessert! Harold & Co‘s signature is their popular FOYT (Finish On Your Table) dessert.

Once we finished our mains, one waitress covered our table with a black paper tablecloth. She placed a huge chocolate ball in front of us, and started drawing with what turned out to be edible colored yoghurt.

After completing her artwork, the waitress broke the chocolate ball that was filled with sweets onto the table. The final result was quite striking. Even more so because I had no idea was what going on. What a nice surprise!

So yes, this is it, time to break the news! I am moving to Canada! I am heartbroken to leave Tokyo, but I am also super excited to move to Vancouver! A new city means plenty of new restaurants to try! Bon Appétit Vancouver sounds good too, right? To be continued…

Overall

So, all in all, Harold & Co does not serve the most mind-blowing cuisine in town, but their concept is meant for you to have a good time. Price-wise, their menus are reasonable so it is a good option if you want to have a nice meal with a little plus factor that won’t ruin you. If you want to surprise someone, the FOYT will make an impression!
